Flee from Babylon... AKA Modern American Christianity

So… God hates athiests and arabs? | January 23, 2012

I ran across this story recently, this makes me so sad.

“A United States Marine was attending some college courses between assignments. He had completed missions in Iraq and Afghanistan & ln one of the courses had a professor who was an a vowed atheist and a member of the ACLU.
One day the professor shocked the class when he came in. He looked to the ceiling and flatly stated, ‘God, if you are real, then I want you to knock me off this platform…. I’ll give you exactly 15 min.’
The lecture room fell silent. You could hear a pin drop.. Ten minutes went by and the professor proclaimed, ‘Here I am God. I’m still waiting.’ It got down to the last couple of minutes when the Marine got out of his chair, went up to the professor, and cold-cocked him; knocking him off the platform. The professor was out cold. The Marine went back to his seat and sat there, silently.
The other students were shocked and stunned and sat there looking on in silence. The professor eventually came to, noticeably shaken, looked at the Marine and asked, ‘What the world is the matter with you? Why did you do that?’ The Marine calmly replied, ‘God was too busy today protecting American soldiers who are protecting your right to say stupid stuff and act like an idiot. So, He sent me.’

The way I read it, the moral of the story is:  God hates athiests and arabs.  He only blesses the good “christian” soliders that blow their brains out in the middle east and assault them in their own classrooms.  The only problem with this story is that it is not the God of the Bible that sent the marine, but the god of  the christian right instead.  Can you spot anything wrong with this story?  I can think of some great conversations I have had with athiests while out passing tracts or street preaching.  Some lasting for an hour.  I guess I should have just punched them to prove God existed (as if believing God exists has some great moral quality in it – satan knows that God exists).  The christian right is at far greater war with the God of the Bible than any athiest or muslim could ever pretend to be.  Six years ago I would have actually supported this marine story, you can read my confession about this on a post at the proto protestant blog.   Here are a couple of comments from that post  for those who wont click the link.  The original post and all the comments are well worth the read though.

“This is in some ways like the dark ages – these conservative “christian” groups hate muslims and support murdering them under the banner of the american flag (ie “God bless our troops”). If only they had one protestant pope to be united under we could really repeat some satanic history. These groups have nothing to do with Jesus Christ or His kingdom. Jesus lays down His life for His enemies. The word babylon comes to mind.”

“The right-wing Christo-american sacralists operate in exactly the same spirit as the jihadists, only the names of their prophets and idols are different. Bullying and intimidating and threatening and appealing to greed and covetesness; strengthening bigotries and distorting truth; sowing fear and division–nothing of the Spirit of Christ.”

  1. This is not directly related to your post, bro, but i thought i would share it:

As Christians, anytime we express our anger over the evil we see or hear about (regardless of who is perpetrating it) it’s nearly always perceived as an expression of hatred toward the person doing it, or, hatred of the religion or group which they belong to.

  2. This is also not directly related to your post, but i think it’s worth considering:

Our perspective or view of any issue seems to change when we are up close to the action, as compared to being distant or detached from it.

If it is closer to home we see it differently than when we see it on TV, on the other side of the world.

The role of secular authorities, police and the military, takes on a different perspective when our own safety is threatened.

I know, this is not the issue of whether God is on the side of America, but if our own family faced slaughter, we may pray for God to help the military defend them.

Ian, even though we may disagree I just wanted to be clear that I am not condeming secular authorities that are ordained by God. I am condemning the actions of professed believers that should be laying down their lives for their enemies. Believers have a higher calling of God in Christ Jesus. America does not have a draft so this is not a matter of having to obey the government either. It is Gods professed people being taken captive by a war mongering and fear breeding social/religious/political group.

America has a terrible thing called the christian right. It breeds hatred against democrats, arabs, and other perceived enemies while building false unity between everyone who ” believes in God” or holds to “conservative values”. The soldier story is the story of the christian right in a nuthsell.

  4. I certainly agree with you, brother, on the main ooint, that God is not on America’s or the Republican’s side, or that the US military is the righteous defender of justice in the world, etc…

I think the Republicans have a false Christianity, and the Democrats, even worse.

How does the media in America report on Islamic matters? Very lightly. Very politically correct. Afraid to tell the truth. a white-washed version. Under-reported.

I think even the right wing in America have a certain fear of telling the truth about the evil committed by Muslims.

It doesn’t matter how “respectable” a Muslim community is, if anyone tries to leave that religion their life is in danger. It violates the most basic of human rights.

    • Let me clarify my point on the issue of whether or not God is on the side of the US Army : If Chinese tanks were rumbling down your street and they were killing everyone in their path, you would certainly, at that time, want God to be on the side of the US Army.

      • I hear you brother, but ultimately God is on the side of His elect. All other relationships, such as with governments, are to accomplish His purposes.
