Flee from Babylon... AKA Modern American Christianity

Why we hate religion and don’t care for Jesus much either | January 27, 2012

John 15:14 You are my friends if you do what I command you.
Luke 6:46 “Why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do what I tell you?

Just as I was pasting this verse from Luke into this post, my boys were playing with their handheld language translator. They must have came across the word betray and my six year old said to his brother “you know what betray means – it means you say you love somebody but you really don’t, like how most people betray the Lord”. There are two things that this spoke to me. The first is about the “Why I love Jesus but Hate Religion” video. Like my six year old who can’t perfectly define betray, and generalizes a bit, he knows more about the great falling away than most people do.

Second, there is a strong counterfeit movement bringing people out of the traditional “church” scene (usually under the name emergent) that could rightly say “Why we hate religion and don’t care for Jesus much either”. While the elect are grieved over all of the apostasy in the system, the emergent’s are equally grieved over the remaining bit of light, truth, and righteousness in there. They dont care about Jesus in truth, they just happen to disagree with some of the anti-biblical things in the traditional church. The traditional church will agree with half of Christs words, the emergents will take the other half. Yet Jesus, a great king, demands we receive all of His word.

John 8:31 So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed in him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

John 8:43 Why do you not understand what I say? It is because you cannot bear to hear my word.

This is why we have to read Gods word, take sides with it (even if it means taking sides against ourselves) and by the grace of God, a heart of love, and child like faith, we must actually do what Jesus says – not pick and choose what we will agree with and obey. Our allegiance has to be to Christ, His word, and His kingdom. Not to any religious or even anti-religious movement.

“All to Jesus I surrender, all to Him I freely give”.

  1. I am in no way judging the young man in the “Why I hate religion but love Jesus” video. I was just combining some thoughts together as I was sad to hear that he attends a Church where the teaching pastor uses profanity and crude sexaul references on a regular basis. May God lead that young man away from that place of compromise.

  2. And yes, I am 100% judging the satanic catholic priest in the response video.

Revelation 2:2-3 I know your works, your toil and your patient endurance, and how you cannot bear with those who are evil, but have tested those who call themselves apostles and are not, and found them to be false. I know you are enduring patiently and bearing up for my name’s sake, and you have not grown weary.

Titus 1:10-11 For there are many who are insubordinate, empty talkers and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision party. They must be silenced, since they are upsetting whole families by teaching for shameful gain what they ought not to teach.

  3. A good example of emergents who can accurately pick out things wrong with the system but who also clearly reject the Christ of the scripture can be found at…

    • A sad mockery of Christ. Sadly again the voice and attitude that you can almost hear the great accuser whose name is satan railing against mankind, let alone the Saints covered in His righteousness.

      • These types of sites draw many false converts that are sick of being part of a conservative church. They would rather be a false convert in a liberal church. This is the fruit of what the conservative churches have produced in their whoredom – harlot daughters, in rebelion to their mom, but still harlots none the less.

    Good observation.

I read a similar thing the other day at Lighthouse Trails Blog. In reference to Viola and Barna’s “Pagan Christianity” : they make it out that the real problem in Christianity is pastors, church buildings and pews, and ignore every other problem.

    • I guess I don’t have a problem with that view, but then anybody who holds to that view needs to begin to look at how it should be. I think a lack of humility and love for each other is at the core of the problem. That should be our motive whenever we gather in His name. Second, there is adding to the Gospel those things which are man’s doctrines. This isn’t complicated is it?

    • “Pastors, church buildings and pews” are outward, external symptoms, or signs, that something is wrong.

Let us always go straight to the heart of the matter, to the centrality of Christ. When people get a vision of Him, they will no longer care about “pastors, buildings and pews”.

Our job is to make Jesus everything, so people can see the simplicity and joy of the Christian life, and live by His Life, Word and Spirit, and not look to or lean on, or depend on external things.
