The strange doctrines of lent

“These Lenten fasting rules also evolved. Eventually, a smaller repast was allowed during the day to keep up one’s strength from manual labor. Eating fish was allowed, and later eating meat was also allowed through the week except on Ash Wednesday and Friday.” – From catholicencyclopedia.org

Hebrews 13:9  Be not carried about with divers and strange doctrines. For it is a good thing that the heart be established with grace; not with meats, which have not profited them that have been occupied therein. We have an altar, whereof they have no right to eat which serve the tabernacle.

1Timothy 4:1 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;  Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.  For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving:  For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.   If thou put the brethren in remembrance of these things, thou shalt be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished up in the words of faith and of good doctrine, whereunto thou hast attained.

An old letter I wrote as a church goer

Here is an email I published on my old xanga site and sent to friends when we were still attending AOG and were seeking to reform the harlot. This was based on a news story at the time. Its interesting to see the partial light I had from the Lord at the time and how He felt it better to leave me in there and grieve over it for so long.

Coal Executive: We Knew Information Was Terribly Wrong

Wednesday, January 04, 2006

TALLMANSVILLE, W.Va. — A coal company executive says it became clear within 20 minutes that the news anxious family members had received about the survival of a dozen trapped miners was terribly wrong.

Yet for three hours, church bells rang in celebration, families joined arm-in-arm to sing joyous hymns, the governor proclaimed it a miracle, and television newscasts and newspapers spread the word around the world.

When the truth finally unfolded early Wednesday, with families members called back and told the 12 were actually dead and only one miner survived, joy turned instantly to fury and a scuffle broke out when relatives lunged at a coal company official.
<=====================================

Friends,

All I can say is WOW, I’m not able in good conciense to pass this one up. It’s almost as if this story was written as an alagory about the church. Think about the coming day of wrath when God judges the world in rightousness, when sinners find out just how terribly wrong the information they recieved from our Churches was. When all those who were told that God loves them and wanted an abundant life for them, but never understood their need to truly repent, are cast into the lake of fire with the words “depart from me you worker of iniquity”. It’s crucial to note that Gods word doesn’t call that day the coming day of love, in spite of what the modern message of the church would have us believe.

It’s true today that church bells are ringing and we join arm-in-arm to sing joyous hymns over the decisions we recieve for Christ. Brothers and sisters please, if you only take one thing from this email, take this; We are the only ones rejoicing over these decisions, the angels in heaven reserve all rejoicing for repentant sinners. (Luke 15:7) We can proclaim these decisions as miracles and spread the news of rescued life around the world, but there is coming a day of reckoning when the truth will finally unfold. We can get a glimpse of this by considering the 95% fall away rate that is well documented in the Assemblies of God churches. That is, the 95% false conversion rate we produce by getting decisions for Christ that lack Godly repentance.

When joy turns to fury on that day, how many damned souls will want to lunge at us, the messangers of false hope? Friends, I’m not talking about overt prosperity teaching like you hear from that big church in Houston Texas. I’m talking about simply excluding from our message the exceedingly sinfulness of sin, the wrath of a holy God, His soon coming jugdement and the torment of Hell for risk of sounding old fashion, harsh or condeming. Although we can lift their hopes and offer a false sense of security with our soft messages, when eternal truth unfolds and they are found to be guilty before Gods holy law, that hope will vanish like a vapor. What an awesome responsibility we have to share the whole council of God with the lost around us. We must pursude our church leadership to preach these vital truths as well. Afterall, they are the very reason men are commanded to repent (Acts 17:30-31)

In Christ,

Jim

Christ and Him crucified

Christs call is to feed the hungry, not the full; to save the lost, not the stiff-necked; not to call the scoffers, but sinners to repentance; not to build and furnish comfortable chapels, churches, and cathedrals at home in which to rock Christian professors to sleep by means of clever essays, stereotyped prayers and artistic musical performances, but to raise living churches of souls among the destitute, to capture men from the devils clutches and snatch them from the very jaws of hell, to enlist and train them for Jesus, and make them into an almighty army of God. But this can only be accomplished by a red-hot, unconventional, unfettered Holy Ghost religion, where neither Church nor State, neither man nor traditions are worshipped or preached, but only Christ and Him crucified. Not to confess Christ by fancy collars, church steeples or rich embroidered altar-cloths, but by reckless sacrifice and heroism in the foremost trenches…” CT Studd

Taken From Ians blog

He that abides in me, and I in him, the same brings forth much fruit: for without me you can do nothing. John 15:5

…Make abiding in Jesus the whole reason you live. That’s what He meant.

A church (building) on every corner

Ezekial 16:25-26 At the head of every street you built your lofty place and made your beauty an abomination, offering yourself to any passerby and multiplying your whoring. You also played the whore with the Egyptians, your lustful neighbors, multiplying your whoring, to provoke me to anger.

Christ Our Life – free music

I know how hard it is for true saints to find good Christ exalting music. This CD is really amazing and always reminds me of the early days of our work in Detroit. It will surely refresh the true saint and I’m pretty sure a false convert could be saved just by listening to it.

Living Sacrifice CD

These brethren have tons of other music from their fellowship that is available free on-line too.

I usually dont promote music, books, teachings, and such on my site but this is one that I can 100% with a clear conscience. You will be so glad you decided to download it.

Enoch walked with God

Gen 5:24 Enoch walked with God, and he was not, for God took him.

Hebrews 11:5 By faith Enoch was taken up so that he should not see death, and he was not found, because God had taken him. Now before he was taken he was commended as having pleased God.

Today many church people walk with political parties, with the world, and with religous denominations … but who walks with God? That is something the most dedicated religionist can not muster from human effort or through an empty profession of faith (though they flatter themselves to the contrary).

To walk with God, to be consumed by the reality of Jesus Christ within you – the hope of glory. I was baptized as a child – who cares, do you walk with God? I believe in such and such doctrine – big deal, do you walk with God? I attend a bible believing church – so what, do you walk with God?

Awesome Christ glorifying song on the subject

Beware of strangers in the wilderness

February 5, 2012

I have run across many of these people in the wilderness.  They are often called platformers, because they go around to home fellowships looking for a platform from which they can share their pet doctrine or outright heresy. You are sure to run across some of them in the wilderness

Saturday Guy :  You know what’s wrong with the institution – they meet on Sunday instead of Saturday.  24 hours is what separates someone as an apostate and your new friend will labor diligently to help set back your clock.  They desperately want someone to pretend to keep the old covenant Sabbath with – are you up to the challenge?

Jewish roots:  Your Jewish roots friend has never seen much worth in Christ so they are eager to lead you farther back into the old covenant. Did you know that there are special Hebrew names for God you need to use and many levitcal laws still to practice?  Home fellowship will never be the same once Jewish roots shows up at your door.

Baptismal Regeneration:  You’re not saved by grace through faith after all – you are saved by being baptized in water in Jesus name only.  Baptismal regeneration guy even comes with a one page hand out that you can read later at your convenience.  He is very dedicated to his cause.

King James Only Guy:  Look who just showed up at your front door for Bible study.  You had better hope your Bible has the three magic letters “KJV” on the cover or this brother will have to wipe the dust off his feet and pronounce woes upon you, spoken with an old English accent of course.

Emergent:  Hell is not real.  God does not condemn sinners there.  Jesus was mainly about social action.  Your new friend and his life partner will be sure to shed the light on many other important biblical topics for you too.

Open Theism:  God does not know the future; He just makes some good guesses as to what will happen.  If you believe that God knows the future then you worship a ‘monster god’.  Will you choose to have sweet fellowship with the open theist?  The God of open theism is anxiously waiting to find out.

Shepparding Movement:  Now that you’ve fled Babylon and worship in Spirit and truth it is important that you come under our spiritual covering.  We are here for you; we are your authority and covering in the wilderness.  We usually have some close connections with IHOP,  NAR, or The Vineyard.  We will utterly ravage your fellowship.

Extreme Quiverfull:  How many kids do you have?  Oh, that’s all, not as many as us!  Do you want to know why?  Because you are not as spiritual or blessed as we are.
