Epheisans 5 KJV
Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord… Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;

We have been listening to a few teachings we could find from teachers we trust while traveling this past week.  I strongly recommend these for the married brothers and sisters, or those considering getting married.  They are very strongly worded and sobering.

For the brothers:  The glory of God in marriage – speaker: Paul Washer http://www.sermonindex.net/modules/mydownloads/singlefile.php?lid=14246&commentView=itemComments

For the sisters: The hidden women of Christ – speaker: Denny Kenaston http://www.sermonindex.net/modules/mydownloads/singlefile.php?lid=7325&commentView=itemComments

For the parents:  Households on fire for God – speaker Denny Kenaston http://www.sermonindex.net/modules/mydownloads/singlefile.php?lid=7331&commentView=itemComments

    PS – When I say trust, I say that with a *. We can only trust anyone if they are speaking in line with scripture and since I do not personally know these men I can not endorse everything they teach or say. These messages were very edifying and biblical though.

    I thought these teachings were overall very good at coming against both the nicolatian spirit of the husband in the home and the spirit of feminism. Both are opposite errors. Of all of the Christian work I have done, the most sobering is to be a husband, Husbands love your wives like Christ loves the Church. Preaching to gang members, many of whom would rather shoot you then listen to what you are saying, not nearly as much trouble for me as loving my wife as Christ loves the Church.

    I met a professing believer that treated his wife like garbage. Cold, rude, snappy, demanding, etc… and all the time, even in front of strangers. Not like the guy just had a bad day he needed to repent of and was in the flesh. Anyway, it turned out he started getting caught up in the SDA cult. His relationship with God was one of law. His view of God is what reflected through his actions towards his wife. Hard to believe that he had any measure of the love of God shed abroad in his heart.

    Revelation 2:17 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it.

    I had never heard this verse used in a teaching about marriage before. Brother washer used it as a word of warning against men who are controlling with their wife and try to cover it over with verses on submitting. He said something along the lines of “Your wife is going to stand before God and recieve a new name and identity that you do not even know, you do not own your wife, God does”.
