Beware of strangers in the wilderness

I have run across many of these people in the wilderness.  They are often called platformers, because they go around to home fellowships looking for a platform from which they can share their pet doctrine or outright heresy. You are sure to run across some of them in the wilderness

Saturday Guy :  You know what’s wrong with the institution – they meet on Sunday instead of Saturday.  24 hours is what separates someone as an apostate and your new friend will labor diligently to help set back your clock.  They desperately want someone to pretend to keep the old covenant Sabbath with – are you up to the challenge?

Jewish roots:  Your Jewish roots friend has never seen much worth in Christ so they are eager to lead you farther back into the old covenant. Did you know that there are special Hebrew names for God you need to use and many levitcal laws still to practice?  Home fellowship will never be the same once Jewish roots shows up at your door.

Baptismal Regeneration:  You’re not saved by grace through faith after all – you are saved by being baptized in water in Jesus name only.  Baptismal regeneration guy even comes with a one page hand out that you can read later at your convenience.  He is very dedicated to his cause.

King James Only Guy:  Look who just showed up at your front door for Bible study.  You had better hope your Bible has the three magic letters “KJV” on the cover or this brother will have to wipe the dust off his feet and pronounce woes upon you, spoken with an old English accent of course.

Emergent:  Hell is not real.  God does not condemn sinners there.  Jesus was mainly about social action.  Your new friend and his life partner will be sure to shed the light on many other important biblical topics for you too.

Open Theism:  God does not know the future; He just makes some good guesses as to what will happen.  If you believe that God knows the future then you worship a ‘monster god’.  Will you choose to have sweet fellowship with the open theist?  The God of open theism is anxiously waiting to find out.

Shepparding Movement:  Now that you’ve fled Babylon and worship in Spirit and truth it is important that you come under our spiritual covering.  We are here for you; we are your authority and covering in the wilderness.  We usually have some close connections with IHOP,  NAR, or The Vineyard.  We will utterly ravage your fellowship.

Extreme Quiverfull:  How many kids do you have?  Oh, that’s all, not as many as us!  Do you want to know why?  Because you are not as spiritual or blessed as we are.

Anything and everything but Jesus…… diversion after diversion after distraction…. eh bro.

I think you left out the feet-washing crew. They’ll even bring their own bowl with them.

This stuff reminds me of when i used to live in Australia.

Col 1:18 And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.

3 John 1:9 I wrote unto the church: but Diotrephes, who loves to have the preeminence among them, receives us not.

I like the way this is put together. I’ve seen many of these people in different forums on the net, but the saddest is when people you love fall into these diversions and deceptions from Christ. And they think you are the lost one. Even when clear scripture and sound examples are presented, they deny the Truth. But they don’t reach out in humility do they? It’s always in prideful arrogance. They may even use things in your own life, perceived weakness, against you. I am finding the Lord strengthens even before the attacks come so that we are ready in the full armor of Christ.

Al – I just met the hybrid version of saturday and jewish roots guy on sermon index.

      -Jim

      • Al Nelson says:

Ugh, I’ve spent the better part of my evening considering what all that entails. What happened to Christ’s sacrifice on the cross in this type of thinking. Why don’t they just rebuild the temple themselves and offer up animal sacrifices. This type of person is probably a Jews Jew. Trying to prove anybodies lineage is just preposterous, let alone completely ignores God’s inclusion of the Gentiles into His plan of Salvation. What a glorious and magnificient work that His work would include somebody like me!
Saturday only worship is possibly a gateway into jewish roots baloney. Once again something to only distract from the Gospel of Christ and lead people astray.

Interesting that you relate Saturday (I hope you mean Shabat). Why do you bring men’s movement in the picture? The hebrew Root, the Adventists and other religious prisons keepers are NOT to be focused on !!!I Once was convicted from the Holy Spirit to come out of her, and soon, I discover The Lord of Shabat, The One who says if you love Me, KEEP MY COMMANDMENTS – The One who is the Living Commandment – If you do not obey Him and His Word, then who do you obey? Are you free not to obey? then are you in the grace movement? Then you must COME OUT OF HER

          • fleebabylon says:

            Justice-

I died to the law of Moses and my legal marriage to it was ended by way of death. I now am free to live my life hidden in Jesus, my new husband as it is, my Lord and savior. I am free from the law of Moses and its demands but a bond servant to the law of Christ and his commandments. There is no way I am coming out of HIM!

Justice, if your heart stops beating today, and you are trusting in the your keeping the law, you will be damned to hell by the law you claim to keep.

Moses demanded one day a week and ten percent of your income. Jesus Christ demands absolutely everything. You gave me an exhortation and now I close with one for you friend. Come out of your false zealous belief and DIE…… with Jesus and be free from bondage to mount sinai.

Romans 7:7 Or do you not know, brethren (for I speak to those who know the law), that the law has dominion over a man as long as he lives? 2 For the woman who has a husband is bound by the law to her husband as long as he lives. But if the husband dies, she is released from the law of her husband. 3 So then if, while her husband lives, she marries another man, she will be called an adulteress; but if her husband dies, she is free from that law, so that she is no adulteress, though she has married another man. 4 Therefore, my brethren, you also have become dead to the law through the body of Christ, that you may be married to another—to Him who was raised from the dead, that we should bear fruit to God. 5 For when we were in the flesh, the sinful passions which were aroused by the law were at work in our members to bear fruit to death. 6 But now we have been delivered from the law, having died to what we were held by, so that we should serve in the newness of the Spirit and not in the oldness of the letter.

Keep reading the next 5 verses if you want to know what law it is that is being spoken of. May you be found in Christ on that day friend and not pretending to keep the law of Moses.

The common thread is that Jesus is not the focus – they are obsessed with something else.

  4. ian vincent says:

When Jesus washed the disciples feet He wasn’t performing a religious stunt for an audience.

Their feet actually needed to be washed in that situation.

When you help someone who really needs your help, you are washing their feet.

Some time back i had a discussion with a foot-washer. After a lot of twists and turns and mumbo jumbo, he finally agreed with me that the people’s feet he washes don’t need to be washed, and that he is only doing it to prove a point.

But when i asked him what it is he is trying to prove, and if it is something concerning himself he is trying to prove to others, he would not answer.

He would not answer bcos he knows that he is trying to prove something about himself, meaning, really, he is seeking glory from men.

I also asked him why he would only do the feet washing in front of an audience. Why not in private?

Again, it’s a stunt for self-glory. Without an audience, what would be the point?

  5. ian vincent says:

See the wonderful humility on display here:

    • Al Nelson says:

Good one Ian. Yeah if they were really humble, wouldn’t they leave off the robes and really be about the community to serve in Christ instead of hiding behind their palace walls?

  6. fleebabylon says:

Gal 2:4 Yet because of false brothers secretly brought in–who slipped in to spy out our freedom that we have in Christ Jesus, so that they might bring us into slavery–
Gal 2:5 to them we did not yield in submission even for a moment, so that the truth of the gospel might be preserved for you.
