The dead house church

NT style meetings in homes will not build up the body of Christ anymore than a dead institutional church service if the people are lazy in their prayer life, negligent in studying the word, and spending all of their time on entertainment, worldly pursuits, dreams and plans for themselves.

  1. Agreed. This is why it is so important to allow Jesus to build each local ekklesia vs. man attempting to do it for Him. Man would invite any and everyone to attend something, God knows which living stones can and will work together. What man builds will be destroyed, yet what God builds lasts for eternity.

I find the same within my own heart. I would invite any and every plan and dream for the future to attend my devotion to Christ but God knows which will hinder me or be an idol to me and have to go. Pray that I have the grace to die to these things and carry my cross gracefully and do not hinder the work of God in my life.

I was at a ministers’ conference some years ago and we drove back and forth in packed buses all week between the hotel and the conference center. But never once among all those ministers was the conversation about God or holiness or the coming of Jesus. It was sports, or golf handicaps, or how big their Sunday School was. It was just senseless chatter even among preachers. -Leonard Ravenhill
