Wrong application

Well meaning brother: “Hey Jim, which do you think is better to cut with, a butter knife or chain saw”

Jim: “It depends I guess”

Well meaning brother: “Obviously a chainsaw is better, you don’t understand much about cutting do you?”

Jim: “I was just thinking in some cases like to cut a sandwich in half that the butter knife might be better, but of course in other applications… [interrupted by well meaning brother]”

Well meaning brother: “I’m not going to listen to you promote anti-chainsaw theology, I bet you have never even used a chainsaw before..”

It is easy to make a pet doctrine and camp out around it, it will lead to blindness though.  Better to camp out around Jesus outside of the camp as it is and let all of your theology revolve around Him instead of making Him revolve around your theology.

Don’t accuse me of belonging to your opponents camp on the basis that I wont pitch a tent in yours. If the Lord Jesus Christ has the central place in your life we can talk about why we believe a certain way about God’s sovereignty and mans responsibility in a fruitful way. If not, and you are camped around some systematic theology instead, I will keep walking. I love to talk about the word of God, but the word doctrine does not mean systematic theology.
