Forgiveness is no light matter

“So My heavenly Father also will do to you if each of you, from his heart, does not forgive his brother his trespasses.”

-Matthew 18:35

If you are having trouble forgiving someone, spend some time with Jesus, remember how much you have been forgiven by him, let his love flow through you.  Beware of a superficial forgiveness where you say to yourself “fine – I forgive them because I am a christian and I have to”.  You may just be agreeing with the principal but not partaking of it’s reality and end up condemned with suppressed bitterness in your heart.

Yes and Amen. The time to decide whether or not to forgive another human being is before they offend us. Forgiveness has nothing to do with the degree of harm someone has caused or the actual offense itself. It’s an attitude of the heart to choose to forgive and to whatever degree we are able, forget what they have done to us.

You say, “I just can’t do it.” Exactly, you can’t. But God is looking toward your willingness to do what you cannot do, so that He may triumph where in and of ourselves we always fail. The moment we own who we are and our own inability, He comes in and triumphs in our stead.
