Professional clergy

Posted: June 11, 2015 in ecclesia, quotes

Without a professional clergy, the soul of the clergy/laity system would dry up. The professional clergy lives on the back of the Church, which is supported by the tithe… The tithe supports their power, which in turn, separates the Church, and in the end, destroys Her…for she is spoon fed, never growing, being subdued by men who dominate Her, rather than the Lord Jesus Alone. . – old quote from a brother on sermonindex

    Old quote from Jesus

    Matthew 23:8

But you, do not be called ‘Rabbi’; for One is your Teacher, the Christ, and you are all brethren. Do not call anyone on earth your father; for One is your Father, He who is in heaven. And do not be called teachers; for One is your Teacher, the Christ But he who is greatest among you shall be your servant. And whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.

So what about a senior pastor who takes a salary, has saints call him by a religious title, dresses up in special religious clothing, stands at a pulpit, etc. In what alternate universe is he not exalting himself the same way that Jesus warns against? Any true elder doing this should humble themselves (and thank God many have – I know several personally).

What of the seemingly humble spirit filled brother who is a pastor in a church doing these things out of tradition only and is used by the Lord despite it (not because of it). We are all used of the Lord despite our faults, not because of them. That doesn’t mean we are accepting the practices if we simply admit that the Lord is using such a brother.
